Join us THIS MORNING as Daniel Kramer moderates Case Analysis with Nick Rowley, Haytham Faraj and Lance Behringer. In this case spotlight, Mireya Mendoza was excited to bring her daughter Karen to work. Mireya worked in a tile fabrication shop where she hand painted tiles that are used in high-end homes for decorative purposes. Her boss invited the workers to bring the kids to work for a pizza party. The shop was a safe place to be. It was set up with tables where workers painted tiles. But kids get bored and after a couple of hours, before the pizza arrived, they decided to go outside to play in a courtyard. Suddenly a loud crash, the parents rushed outside to find a large metal door had fallen trapping a 10 year old and killing 6 year old Karen. The metal door had been placed against the wall of the courtyard.

The defense disputed any liability. The kids were never supposed to be out of sight of the parents and certainly not outside. This was a workshop. The best offer before trial was $15,000. The case was tried by Haytham and Nick. The obtained a verdict of 13.06 million with 20% apportionment on the mother.
